THE SIGHTS

Step back in time with a run through Milan’s historic heart. The Duomo,  La Scala, and Castello Sforzesco to name but a few of the more known sights but we'll take you to places you may not have heard of. You'll run on ancient cobblestones, past Roman columns, the remnants of Medieval Walls and through Renaissance plazas. It’s a unique way to explore the city’s layers of history without stopping for traffic or long lines. Early mornings are best, when the city is still waking up and the monuments belong to you.

Parks and Hills

There are very few hills in Milano. We know of five and they're all man-made. Monte Stella made of WWII rubble offers the best views. While the hills are scarce, parks abound. From centrally located Sempione that lies between the Castello Sforzesco and the Arco della Pace to Monte Stella to the wilder parks on the periphery, Porto di Mare, Nord, Lambro, Cave and Graone to name but a few. Along the way, you’ll see lakes, bird sanctuaries, and hidden corners you wouldn’t find on a map. Great for a breath of fresh air and a break from the busy streets.

Canals, canals, canals

The canal system in Milan, known as the Navigli, has its roots in the 12th century. The first major canal, the Naviglio Grande, was completed in 1272, connecting Milan to the Ticino River.
During the 15th century, Leonardo da Vinci designed a series of innovative sluice gates that greatly enhanced the canal system. At its peak, the Navigli network spanned over 150 kilometers, linking Milan to the lakes and major rivers of northern Italy.
In the 20th century, many canals were covered or filled in to make way for roads, but sections like the Naviglio Grande, Pavese and Martesana remain open and are great places to run.
